Royal Premier Motors, Dallas TX: a buyer's records

Royal Premier Motors review / Guide

CARFAX showed an oil change. The repair order said engine sludge.

The visit that diagnosed our 2020 Nissan Pathfinder's engine with sludge appears on its CARFAX report as an oil change, tire rotation and alignment check. We bought the car from Royal Premier Motors in Dallas six weeks later. Here are both records, line by line, and how to see what a history report leaves out.

What the Nissan dealer wrote

Trophy Nissan in Mesquite, repair order 1493296, opened May 18 and closed May 23, 2026, at 112,556 miles. The customer said the check engine light was flashing. The technician's note:

Check engine light: complete engine long block assy and needed gaskets, seals... has misfire codes, and engine has sludge...

The only charge was $199.99 for the diagnosis. No repair was done.

What CARFAX shows for the same visit

Dated 05/23/2026, Trophy Nissan, 112,556 miles: "Vehicle serviced. Maintenance inspection completed. Alignment checked. Oil and filter changed. Tires rotated." Nothing about sludge, misfire codes or a needed engine.

CARFAX entries for the 2020 Nissan Pathfinder: 05/23/2026 Trophy Nissan vehicle serviced, oil and filter changed, tires rotated; 06/21/2026 offered for sale by Royal Premier Motors; 07/07/2026 passed emissions inspection

How one repair order became that entry

The repair order has six lines. Line A is the paid diagnosis. Lines B through F are a multipoint inspection, an alignment inspection, a default "recommended service" line, a tire tread check, and a line to reset the oil and tire rotation reminder lights. Every line except the diagnosis is $0.00, and parts are $0.00.

The CARFAX entry lists the maintenance-sounding items and none of the diagnosis. We don't know how CARFAX's system turned those lines into its summary. We only know what the two records say.

AutoCheck didn't mention sludge either. It listed the same visit as a multipoint inspection with "engine serviced" and "electrical system serviced." It did show something CARFAX didn't: the car sold at auction on June 16.

What that means when you're shopping

  • A "Service History" badge means visits were reported, not that the car is healthy.
  • A diagnosis the owner declined to fix may not appear the way the shop wrote it.
  • Our listing showed "Great Value," "No Accident or Damage Reported" and "Service History," with a free CARFAX report from the dealer. See the listing.

How to see what a report leaves out

  1. Pull both CARFAX and AutoCheck.
  2. Call a franchise dealer for that make, give the VIN, and ask about past visits and declined repairs.
  3. Check the Texas inspection history for stored fault codes.
  4. Pay for an independent inspection before you buy.

Questions

Does CARFAX show repairs that were diagnosed but not done?

Not in our case. A Nissan dealer diagnosis of engine sludge and a needed engine appears on CARFAX as an oil change, tire rotation and alignment check.

Did AutoCheck show the sludge?

No. It listed the visit as a multipoint inspection with engine and electrical service. It did show the June 16 auction sale that CARFAX didn't.

Who sold the car?

Royal Premier Motors LLC in Dallas, which listed it on CARFAX with a free report. See every record.
